Welcome!

It is my honor and privilege, as Administrator for Common Peace, Center for the Advancement of Nonviolence to welcome you to our website. Common Peace was born in 1997 as a 64 day nonviolence campaign called the Season for Nonviolence. The 64 day nonviolence campaign was created as a response to a request of Arun Gandhi, grandson of Mohandas K. Gandhi as a way to honor the 64 days between the memorial death dates of Dr. Martin Luther King and Mahatma Gandhi.

We have expanded since our early days, and in 2001 became a 501(c)(3) Los Angeles based nonprofit. Our 64 day Season for Nonviolence campaign is only one small part of what Common Peace now offers to the public. Our focus is nonviolence education -- educating the public about the power of "nonviolence" as a pro-active expression of participation in the world, and healing our personal, professional and global relationships through the principles of nonviolence as taught by Martin Luther King, Jr. and Mohandas K. Gandhi.

In alignment with our focus, we offer nonviolence education tools to the public in the form of a nonviolence school (or home schooling) curriculum, and various other effective communication workshops that educate individuals and groups in the use and power of "nonviolence" as a daily practice and way of life that works for individuals, families and communities. We also share the vision of nonviolence as the global standard for resolving conflict.

We invite you to enter into our website and mission . . . in Peace!

Candace Carnicelli, Director

"Nonviolence is the answer to the crucial political and moral question of our time -- the need for man to overcome oppression and violence without resorting to violence and oppression." -- Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
